The weeping Statue of Liberty expresses the grief and anguish that Verner and so many others felt upon his death. Many other events in the U.S. have evoked similar feelings, and the expression Yearning to Breathe Free could also mean Yearning to Be Free, for immigrants, others of color, and women suffering oppression.

On the left of this thickly-painted work, we see a mother and grandmother relaxing on one side of a large bed with a gray, ornate headboard in a bedroom. The bed covering has different shades of green stripes. To the right of the bed, there is a little girl (age six or seven) dancing around in one of her mother’s red, sheer nightgowns. She is lifting up part of the nighty to expose her chest, where you can subtly see a scar that runs horizontally across her chest area through the sheer part of the fabric.

A Black & White scanographic self-portrait from my “Blind Vision” series. My face appears blurred and distorted. I am holding film reels over my eyes. The film reels represent the magnifiers I use on a constant basis in order to negotiate my life as a legally blind artist.

A figure with eyes closed with abstract shapes of wings and threads throughout. The colors are earth tones.

Thick sanded paste were used to create the texture of the wall. Verner glued on stained glass for the torchlight and tree. Artist's daughter created the “Give me Your Tired…” as a hand lettered, fold-out banner.

Part of a series in Catholic Chruch. This is one of the stations where you stop to pray. Varying line exposure which pushes the colors into very crazy places. The floor has got a green carpet, and I've drawn in the figure of Christ on the Cross with a flashlight.

his is a 16”x20” acrylic painting. View is as you are walking down a wooden boardwalk toward the calm light blue water of the bay in Monterey. The boardwalk is surrounded on both sides with sundrenched ice plant and other coastal plant life. In the far distance is a view of the coastal mountains.

My vision of somebody being electrocuted with two neon bolts of lightning coming up through their legs and circulating through their body; as if a man is surging with power and electricity.

This is an acrylic painting on a 12”x24” stretched canvas. The viewer’s perspective is from a high lookout looking over a beach and the expansive incoming waves of the Pacific Ocean. I made an image of dragonfly on a 10 x 14inch scratchboard, a white clay paper with a layer of black India ink. Using a stylus pen I scratched away the ink to reveal the white underneath while designing the dragonfly. Depending on the pressure of the stylus you can get different shades of white and gray. I left the dragonfly’s eyes black and in the center body I scratched with a lot of pressure to give the body form. Using various fine white lines, I filled in the wings to recreate feel of a dragonfly’s win

This X-ray photogram collage visually represents waves of nausea as panorama. In each of 5 iterations of the stomach x-ray, images of decaying fish swim around stomach cavities exposed beneath a woven ribcage lattice in shades of gree. The images move in a wave from ethereal teal to neon to browning algae slime on a backdrop of cold surgical steel.

Many colors of squares float throughout the digital painting composition. On the smooth shines surface which has a background color of pinkish beige sand. The marks of the squares are outlines drawn in with paint brushstrokes. There is a few squares in orange and red that appear dominantly throughout and many smaller squares in neon green overlap with all the other square colors. Some of the squares overlap or are hidden partially by other squares. They overlap big and small creating a visual distance.

Two horse heads in silhouette with their manes flying in the wind, face each other. The heads are balanced on a flat stone base, a type of rock called, “Utah Limestone”. The horse heads are 3-D outlines from the middle of their necks upwards. The manes are completely 3-D made with many horseshoes that I’ve bent and curved so that they seem to fly in a perpetual breeze. One horse head is higher up than the other so the horses appear to nestle into each other.

I made an image of the head of an owl on a 10 x 14inch scratchboard, a white clay paper with a layer of black India ink. Using a stylus pen I scratched away the ink to reveal the white underneath while designing the owl’s head. Depending on the pressure of the stylus you can get different shades of white and gray. For the owl’s eyes I left the pupil black and iris I took all the black away. Using various shades of white to black created a 3-D affect.

I made an image of fox on a 7 x 5inch scratchboard, a white clay paper with a layer of black India ink. Using a stylus pen I scratched away the ink to reveal the white underneath while designing the fox. Depending on the pressure of the stylus you can get different shades of white and gray. I used a lot of heavy white lines for the fur of the fox and left a lot of the surrounding area untouched. The area around the nose and neck are untouched, giving the fox a dramatic affect.

Before it stands a small, naked child, turned away from us, the fear or tears palpable even without seeing the face. This is one of my most iconic images from my “Blind Vision” series. It is a Black & white scanographic self-portrait. The frame is filled with white foam. My face appears through a darkness at the right side of the frame. There is a monocular in my eye and streaks of white foam across my face.

A reclining woman, on the left, occupies the background wearing a black and gold mask. No part of her face is visible. She wears a low-cut bodice and a wig lays across her chest. Only her upper torso is visible and her upper right arm and shoulder bear a text tattoo. Another woman stands in the foreground but is much smaller than the reclining one. She wears a top hat pushed forward on her head and a t shirt printed with the American flag. Her hands are behind her head and her elbows protrude to the side.

Many yellow colored pink tentacles (looks like many legs moving in the water …they react to movement and water flow) inside of the tentacle is a soft cream colored body which looks like a white flower but it is a living sea creature. It opens and closes in reaction to movement. This was in the bottom of a fish tank at the SF Exploratorium.

This clay sculpture with characters all around the sides represents daily life people in my life. The front side has a lonely figure sitting down in a square room , literally an inside space, like if reflecting on spiritual thoughts , inside feelings.

The video opens with a pianist’s view playing the opening bars of Beethoven’s Appassionata sonata. There is an overlay of static from cochlear processor and tinnitus ringing. Then the video takes the viewer on an animated journey into the interior of a piano composited vintage medical illustrations, set to a soundtrack made with the body of the piano excluding the keyboard. It ends with further excerpts of Beethoven’s Appassionata.

Hand built steel and wood sculpture of an eagle raptor landing on a bed of roses. The raptor’s wingspan is as wide as a 5’ tall human. The raptor’s legs are stretched down towards the ground as it lands in a bed of steel roses. I made the roses out of reclaimed steel from the old electrical panel on my house and my wife’s antique steel baking sheets (she told me she was ready to donate her collection to a sculpture). The tail feathers are down, the beak is slightly open.

Forged in fire, my chess set is my interpretation of chess pieces as wild animals of North America. My design is inspired by my life spent outdoors, working and playing in the American mountains and deserts. I brought those days under the sun and stars into the feeling of my series of thirty-two sculptures which together create the chess set. My time camping and working in National and State Parks inspired the name, ‘Yellowstone”. My set is oversized and all-together, heavy.

n the background on the left side of the painting, in front of the fence, a rust colored bull peaks out from behind a grayish barn and looks forward toward the front part of the painting, where one can see the torso of an older woman wearing a whitish bandana, red t-shrt and holding a rusty tin can full of feed grain and a small, whitish plastic bucket in her left hand. The image of her figure dominates the central part of the image. The woman has a bit of a bemused smile on her face.

“Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly” small bee painting (Hanging On) – An 11”x14” acrylic painting of a honeybee hanging on to the leaf from and orange tree.

The photography is a composite of an overhead view of a grand piano with the lid open juxtaposed with left and right side view of my ears, one wearing a hearing aid and the other a cochlear processor.

The image is of a child’s playroom. The playroom is constructed of two walls, which form the corner of the room and the floor tiles, which are all in shades of gray. The wall on the left side of the piece is a darker gray that disappears into shadow. The wall on the right side of the painting has textured bands of various gray colors running in vertical stripes up the wall. This wall also gradually disappears into darkness. The floor tiles are a mottled mix of gray colors and spots.
