Therese Verner - Torch Girl Stomps the Wall
Verner's gut-wrenching reaction to government separation of immigrant families inspired her to create this piece. Another name for the Statue of Liberty is Torch Girl! When Verner discovered this fact, it inspired the statues stance, and her defiant action to stomp the wall separating the families.
Verner used thick sanded paste to create the texture of the wall. She glued on stained glass for the torchlight and tree. Verner's daughter, Sharon Frances created the “Give me Your Tired…” as a hand lettered, fold-out banner.
