PETAL: Promoting Early Intervention Timing and Attention to Language (6-8 months)

Eligibility: Children 6 to 8 months old who are younger siblings of children with ASD
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate early intervention timing and attention to language and will receive the following interventions: COACH, JASPER, and Babble Bootcamp.
- COACH consists of a blended intervention of two evidence tested interventions, JASPER and Babble Bootcamp.
- JASPER is an evidence-based early intervention that focuses on the core social communication and engagement skills of young children that are important to improvements in communication and language
- Babble Bootcamp is a new intervention focusing on the speech-motor system and aims to improve babbling and early word use in infants known to be at risk for language delay.
Involvement:
- The study will be from 6-8 months of age to when the child is 24 months (almost 18 months)
- Once assigned to the appropriate intervention, the parent will meet with someone from the research team virtually for an hour each week
- Free assessments of language and cognitive skills at 6 distinct time points: at 6-8 months, 9 months, 12 months, 15 months, 18 months, and 24 months
- Total time commitment for the study will range from 60 hours to 82 hours
