Helping out parents through autism education

Dr. Nicole McDonald

The time after your child receives a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) can require a whole new set of skills, knowledge, and emotional resources that you have not needed as a parent before. The UCLA Child and Adult Neurodevelopmental (CAN) clinic will soon begin offering a group focused on providing education and support for parents whose children have recently received an ASD diagnosis: Helping Out Parents through autism Education. Facilitated by a licensed clinical psychologist, Dr. Nicole McDonald, this 6-week group is designed to both inform and support parents in learning about ASD, evidence based strategies and interventions, and in navigating pertinent community resources. The group will also be a place where parents can begin to make connections with others in the autism community. If interested, please contact us at 310-794-4008 or clinic@autism.ucla.edu. Some insurance plans are accepted for this service. The group is expected to start up in the early fall.
