Training Programs in Medical Psychology and Neuropsychology

The Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences of the David Geffen School Medicine, the Semel Institute for Neuroscience & Human Behavior and the Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital offer multiple opportunities for training in clinical psychology from pre-internship through advanced postdoctoral levels.

There are multiple Psychology Doctoral Practicum Training Programs (also known as 'Pre-internships', 'Clerkships').

The UCLA Predoctoral Internship Program in Clinical Psychology has been continuously accredited by the American Psychological Association since 1958. The internship is characterized by a wide variety of clinical activities, supervision by a multidisciplinary faculty who frequently are nationally known in their specialty, and a wide array of seminars, case conferences and other educational experiences. UCLA Medical Center was ranked among the top 3 hospitals in the United States. The program now supports 14 interns in 10 unique tracks, including: Geropsychology; Health & Behavior; Major Mental Illness; Adult Neuropsychology; General Child; Developmental Disabilities; Pediatric Consultation Liaison; Adolescent Serious Mental Illness; and Pediatric Neuropsychology; Trauma, Stress and Resilience.

The Post-Doctoral Fellowship Program in Neuropsychology aims to prepare the next generation of scientist-practitioners for careers in academic research and clinical applications within the specialty area of neuropsychology. The program achieves its goals through training in a series of tracks, including both Academic/Research and Clinician/Educator emphases. Tracks with an Academic/Research emphasis are designed to prepare applicants for academic careers in teaching and clinical research, and tracks with Clinician/Educator emphases are designed to prepare applicants for private or hospital-based practice providing neuropsychological services and advanced training in clinical neuropsychology.

Other programs: In addition to the programs offered through the Medical Psychology-Neuropsychology program as described above, UCLA also supports a wide diversity of training programs in disciplines highly relevant to psychology and neuroscience. Please be sure to look for offerings through other departments and programs in the David Geffen School of Medicine, Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior, UCLA Brain Research Institute, and the UCLA Department of Psychology.
