UCLA Prevention Center of Excellence engages in Creative Wellbeing
In April, the UCLA Prevention Center of Excellence hosted the Creative Wellbeing and Center for the Empowerment of Families teams who facilitated an interactive art experience called affirmation cubes. More than a hands-on activity, this experience reflected the heart of Creative Wellbeing’s work in LA County – using creative expression as a tool f or healing, empowerment and connection. The session fostered presence, encouraged self-reflection and allowed colleagues to connect, mirroring the impact these practices have in the communities they serve. Creative Wellbeing is a strategic collaboration between the Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture, Office of Child Protection (OCP), Department of Mental Health (DMH) and Arts for Healing and Justice Network (AHJN). Creative Wellbeing has been developed as an approach for building communities of wellness for system-impacted youth, those at-risk of becoming system-impacted and the adults who support them. The model offers non-traditional strategies for promoting mental health and wellness that include culturally relevant, healing-centered, arts-based workshops for youth, as well as professional development, coaching and emotional support for adults.
