Dr. Zhang is an assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences, the Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center and the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior. Dr. Zhang received her B.S. in Biological Sciences from Tsinghua University in China, earned her Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of California San Francisco under the mentorship of Dr. Yuh Nung Jan and received postdoctoral training in the laboratory of Dr. Ben Barres at Stanford University. Dr. Zhang is a recipient of the Pathway to Independence Career Transition Award (K99/R00) from NIH, the Idun and Walter Berry Postdoctoral Fellowship, and the Genentech Graduate Fellowship. At UCLA Dr. Zhang leads efforts in studying glia development and the roles of glia in neurological and psychiatric disorders including autism, brain tumor, and neurodegenerative disorders.
