Moya Devine

Artist:

I began a series of stylized portraits of my at risk art students. Painting these students allows me to honor their stories of hardship and perseverance among sometimes severe challenges. I feel I have shared these hardships through a common thread which is partially related to my disability. My grant provided the materials to jumpstart my painting practice and held me accountable for work production.

The Arts and Accessibility work resulted in several exhibition opportunities, among them showing my work at “That’s What She Said” at the Martha Pace Swift Gallery and Indoor / Outdoor - Swedish / California Perspectives at the Athenaeum Art Center Bread and Salt Gallery in San Diego California.
