Women's Life Center

Clinic Overview

The Women's Life Center at The David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA is an outpatient clinical program dedicated to assessing and treating women with psychiatric conditions linked to hormonal challenges and reproductive life events.

Reasons for consultation include:

  • Pre-pregnancy assessments for psychiatric conditions necessitating treatment, including guidance on psychiatric medication use during pregnancy
  • Psychiatric disorders associated with pregnancy and postpartum (including medication recommendations during breastfeeding)
  • Emotional conditions following miscarriage and pregnancy loss
  • Infertility and assisted reproductive technology
  • Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) and premenstrual syndrome (PMS)
  • Mood and anxiety disorders during perimenopause

The Center's interdisciplinary staff specializes in women's mental health and reproductive psychiatry, providing personalized, supportive care tailored to each patient's needs. Our team comprises psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers.

Services include consultation and medication management. We collaborate closely with community providers to facilitate access to psychotherapy, childcare resources, and group support. Additionally, we partner with the UCLA Perinatal Intensive Outpatient Program (link https://www.uclahealth.org/hospitals/resnick/partial-hospitalization-int...) to support patients requiring higher levels of care. All evaluations and treatments are conducted by faculty experts in women's mental health, including senior psychiatric residents or fellows and experienced reproductive psychiatrists.

Who We See:

We primarily serve adult females and provide consultations or ongoing care to individuals of any gender identity who are pregnant or have concerns related to reproductive mental health. Our patients include those seeking care before, during, or after pregnancy, during fertility treatments, following miscarriage or pregnancy loss, during perimenopause, and those experiencing mood changes associated with the premenstrual period.
