Studies Target Amyloid Plaques and Tau Tangles

July 25, 2010

A brain-imaging study by Dr. Gary Small, Parlow-Solomon Professor on Aging, professor of psychiatry at the Semel Institute and director of the UCLA Center on Aging, was cited July 26 by the Los Angeles Times. His team found that a high number of amyloid plaques and tau tangles in healthy people’s brains was linked to a greater risk for cognitive decline over a two-year period. Small was quoted. He also appeared July 27 on the “Dr. Oz Show” to address the difference between forgetful "senior moments" and the onset of Alzheimer's disease.
