Intellectual Developmental Disabilities Research Center (IDDRC)

The UCLA IDDRC is philosophically committed to multidisciplinary, collaborative, and translational research that helps understand the causes of and to discover treatments for IDDs, with the ultimate goal of improving the lives of individuals with IDDs and their families. While committed to the belief that understanding the basic mechanisms underlying IDDs is essential for developing transformative interventions, we increasingly appreciate that improving communication and understanding the priorities and values of stakeholders is essential for this research to meaningfully impact the lives of the large numbers of people dealing with IDD daily. Thus, we are committed to supporting research that integrates basic and clinical science, teaching our students and faculty how to communicate the content and the importance of their research to a broader audience, and forming deep relationships with community partners.
