Measuring Brain Inflammation in Autism

Eligibility

  • Male
  • 18 - 35 years old
  • Diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Purpose

To investigate the relationship between brain inflammation and the cognitive and behavioral symptoms of ASD

Involvement

Two screening visits at UCLA, 12 weeks of treatment with the antibiotic minocycline with visits to UCLA every other week, and two positron emission tomography (PET) brain scans at the West Los Angeles VA Hospital before and after treatment (16 weeks total). An adult who is close to the patient (informant) will also be asked to answer questions about the patient at certain visits.
