TheHelping U Help Your Community competition provides support to community-partnered academic research and service-learning projects that address the most critical health needs of Los Angeles residents in innovative and effective ways.
Our project, “Autism in the African American Community,” is a partnership between UCLA CART (Connie Kasari, PhD, Amanda Gulsrud, PhD, and Themba Carr, PhD) and Healthy African American Families (Loretta Jones, MA, Aziza Wright, and HAAF colleagues). This project seeks to explore disparities in autism diagnosis and treatment in the African-American community of South Los Angeles. By partnering in the community, our team seeks to give ALL families impacted by autism, regardless of race or socioeconomic status, the hope of a brighter future.
The next stage of the challenge is the voting stage, where community members like you will select the top 5 projects. The winners will receive $20,000 in funding to support the project. Please support our project and vote for “Autism in the African American Community!”
