Dementia Risk is Not the Same for Everyone: Things to Consider as you Age

July 29, 2026

Why do some people develop dementia while others remain cognitively healthy into their 80s and 90s? While age is the strongest risk factor, research shows that many aspects of brain health are influenced by lifestyle, cardiovascular health, sleep, stress, social engagement, and other modifiable factors. At the same time, dementia risk is not equal across all communities, with differences shaped by genetics, health conditions, access to care, education, environmental exposures, and social determinants of health. This webinar will review the latest evidence on factors that may influence dementia risk, discuss why some populations experience a greater burden of disease, and highlight practical, evidence-based strategies that support lifelong brain health. The session will conclude with information about opportunities to participate in research aimed at improving early detection and prevention of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.
