2nd Annual ICSP Spring Symposium

The Integrative Center for Sleep and Performance (ICSP), part of the UCLA Brian Research Institute, successfully hosted the 2nd Annual ICSP Spring Symposium on June 1, 2026, bringing together researchers, trainees, and collaborators for a day of scientific exchange focused on sleep, circadian biology, health, and cognitive/physical performance. The event highlighted research at UCLA and beyond around sleep, circadian rhythms, and performance while fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and discussion.

The symposium featured keynote presentations by  Dr. Rae Silver of Columbia University and Dr. Katja Lamia of Scripps Research Institute, who shared cutting-edge discoveries on the neurovascular mechanisms of underlying sleep and circadian regulation of metabolism.  Their talks provided valuable perspectives on fundamental biological processes with broad implications for human health and disease.

Short research talks showcased innovative work spanning light-based therapies, neuromodulation, athletic performances, metabolism, and sleep-dependent neural plasticity, highlighting the translational impact of sleep and circadian science across diverse populations and model systems. A particular highlight of the symposium was the participation of trainees, whose poster presentations and Data Blitz talks demonstrated scientific creativity, rigor, and innovation across a wide range of research topics. Their contributions generated lively discussion and underscored ICSP’s commitment to training the next generation of leaders in sleep and performance research.
