About
NATL investigates how brain systems involved in reward, decision-making, and impulse control are affected by substance use and addiction. Using fMRI and other imaging technologies, the lab studies how different treatments—such as behavioral therapies and medications—affect brain function. Research participants include individuals with opioid, stimulant, and alcohol use disorders. The lab aims to identify biomarkers of treatment response and relapse risk. Its work informs more personalized, neuroscience-based approaches to addiction treatment.
