The Learning Development Center

The Learning Development Center (LDC) is a branch of the Disability Programs & Services (DPS) department at Chaffey College. It is a job readiness and job placement program offering classes and hands-on lab experience to assist students with disabilities in successful job placement. The goal of the program is competitive (independent) employment. The program includes Beginning, Intermediate, Advanced and Mastery level courses in Job Readiness Skills and Job Skills Practicum Lab. Components include:

  • Job success skills
  • Interpersonal awareness
  • Current events
  • Money management
  • Personal development for success
  • Job search preparation
  • Hands on training in food services, retail/customer service, janitorial skills and office skills
  • Volunteer work experience

Housing: No housing is offered through program.

Duration: A sequence of courses is offered over four semesters, or approximately two years; however, completion of the program occurs whenever a student obtains employment within this period of time.

Admission

Application:

  1. Applicants are required to submit an online application for admissions to Chaffey College.
  2. The applicants should call (909) 652-7675 to schedule a tour/pre-intake appointment at the LDC.
  3. Bring a copy of your psychological/psycho-educational or medical evaluation for disability verification that has been completed within the last five years to your pre-intake appointment at the LDC.
  4. Fill out an Application for Services at the time of your pre-intake appointment.
  5. Complete an intake appointment with a DPS Counselor at the Rancho Cucamonga, Chino or Fontana campus. The Counselor will review your psychological/psycho-educational or medical evaluation and assist in determining whether or not the program will be appropriate for you.

Tuition Fees: $46 per unit (Fall 2013)

Miscellaneous fees include health services, college services and transportation fees ($23.50-$32.50).

Chaffey College students with a Student ID card, enrolled in credit classes can ride the bus for free as part of the GoSmart student ridership program.

Funding:

Qualified California residents are eligible for the Board of Governor's Fee Waiver (BOGW). The BOGW waives mandatory enrollment cost per unit. Students who are currently receiving benefits from SSI are eligible for a BOGW as long as they are California residents. Students are required to provide proof of benefits (dated within the last 30 days) to Financial Aid Office.
