2016 STOP CANCER AWARD recipient: Cousins Center faculty member Judith E. Carroll, Ph.D.

November 20, 2015

Dr. Judith E. Carroll, Ph.D. has been honored with the 2016 STOP CANCER Marni Levine Memorial Research Career Development Award.  STOP CANCER grants are given to the most promising scientist at UCLA’s Jonsson, USC Norris and City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Centers. Awardees are selected based on nominations of each Cancer Center’s internal peer review recommendations. This award will provide three years of research support for Dr. Carroll as she pursues her research into the biobehavioral factors that accelerate aging in breast cancer survivors. This work addresses a current gap in the field by examining prospective rates of change in cellular aging dynamics in breast cancer survivors and the interaction of individual behavioral vulnerabilities such as depression and sleep disturbances. Dr. Carroll’s work will ultimately support the development of important naturalistic and intervention studies that directly address improving the health and well-being of breast cancer survivors.  Dr. Carroll will be honored for her early career research at the annual STOP CANCER Research Award Dinner in February, being held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills.  Click here for full JCCC announcement.
