Dr. London received her Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the University of Maryland (Baltimore) in 1976. Following her post-doctoral fellowship at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, she worked at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) where she was Director of the Brain Imaging Center of the Intramural Research Program. During her tenure at NIDA, Dr. London also held joint faculty appointments at the University of Maryland and Johns Hopkins Schools of Medicine from 1993-1999. In 1999, she joined the faculty at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute and is currently a full professor in the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. She maintains an active NIH-funded research program, and has published over 250 peer-reviewed research articles, as well as numerous book chapters and reviews. Dr. London is an internationally recognized expert in the use of neuroimaging to study neural circuitry underlying drug craving. Dr. London has served on numerous NIH special grant review committees and emphasis panels and she currently is a member of the NIH Clinical Research Review Committee.
Complementing her commitment to scientific research and education, Dr. London has mentored graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and junior faculty interested in the multi-faceted problems of substance abuse and drug addiction. Many of her mentees have gone on to prestigious positions in academia and government. Additionally, she is a vocal advocate for junior faculty, providing advice, assistance and training opportunities as young investigators strive to become both productive and independent.
