Research at the Child and Adolescent Mood Disorders Program

The philosophy of the CHAMP clinic includes our attempt to
enhance clinical care for children and their families by including
state-of-the-art research studies as an important part of clinic
activities. CHAMP will be conducting studies of family-focused
treatment, an educational and skill-building approach to caring
for a child or teen with bipolar disorder.
Typically, family-focused treatment involves sessions with the
youth and his or her family (parents and siblings).  We will be
comparing youth who receive medications and family-focused
treatment to youth who receive medications and other forms
of counseling. We are also conducting studies of functional
magnetic resonance imaging and neuropsychological functioning
in children suspected to have bipolar disorder.

Additional studies are planned.
