Danielle Berke, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor, Hunter College of the City University of New York
Research Interests:
Dr. Berke’s research broadly focuses on identifying risk and resilience factors associated with
victimization and adaptation to traumatic harm, particularly among women and sexual and
gender minorities. Specifically, her program of research comprises three primary foci 1)
identifying determinants of gender-based violence using laboratory and epidemiological
research methods; 2) understanding the consequences of violence on transgender individuals
via application of biosocial and minority stress models of heath disparity; and 3) evaluation of
violence prevention and trauma-informed clinical interventions. A fundamental end goal of this
research program is to reduce gender-based violence and its consequences through the
application of empirically grounded theory to the development, tailoring and implementation of
violence prevention and clinical intervention programming.
