Nexus Project Overview

New science: Nexus will integrate basic discoveries in genomics and neuroscience with assessment of brain and behavior in animals and humans, informing new strategies in prevention and health promotion research.
New vision: Nexus will employ this integrated research program as the driving force in establishing the Health Promotion Campus as the central theme unifying all components of the UCLA community.
New operational model: Nexus will integrate the activities of investigators from across departments and disciplines, selecting investigators based on productivity and commitment to the Nexus mission, encouraging entrepreneurship, and assigning space and resources to maximize flexibility and according to results-based criteria.
New faculty: Nexus will build upon existing world-class programs at UCLA and serve as a magnet for recruiting the best new faculty, nationally and internationally.
Nexus Project Overview - click to enlargeNew design: The Nexus Building is designed to foster transdisciplinary faculty innovation, with the goal of rapid translation of scientific advance into disease prevention and health promotion. The public spaces that include a garden, classrooms, and museum quality exhibits will invite public interaction with the work of the Nexus faculty. Both in its research programs, and through education and training, Nexus will seek to advance directly the promotion of health in the community, including UCLA students and employees, the diverse population of Greater Los Angeles, and ultimately the nation as a whole.
