Clinical Clerkship in Psychiatry and Neurology

A required eight-week clerkship in psychiatry and neurology provides the opportunity for third-year medical students to have shared responsibility under close supervision for the diagnosis and treatment of patients seeking help for psychiatric illnesses and neurological disorders. The clerkship is given at the Semel Institute and Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, WLA-Healthcare Center, San Fernando Valley Program (combined experience at Olive View Medical Center and Sepulveda V.A. Medical Center), Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and Kedren Community Mental Health Center. In each facility the experience will include working with hospitalized adult psychiatric patients as well as adults and/or children in outpatient clinics and/or emergency settings. In addition, opportunities for experience in consultation/liaison psychiatry and treatment of psychiatric emergencies are included. Teaching is done by both attending and resident staff. An eight-week rotation offered continuously throughout the year. Prerequisite: completion of 1st and 2nd year medical school curriculum and junior standing.
