Our Mission

Our mission is to better understand the neurobiology of gender dysphoria (GD), and the changes that occur with gender-affirming treatments. Improvement in the basic knowledge of both neurobiological and psychosocial factors associated with GD may lead to better acceptance and awareness in society for people who experience gender dysphoria. Further, an ultimate goal of this research is to improve the health outcomes of gender-affirming treatments by better understanding how they affect the brain and how they affect body perception in the context of one’s gender identity. Our research is not intended to be used to determine who does or does not receive treatment, nor is it to be used as diagnostic criteria for gender dysphoria.
