Joint Special Populations Advisory Committee Conference in Sacramento, California

Wilbert Francis will present as a member of a panel on December 1, 2016 at this conference. His presentation will feature lessons learned in effectively supporting the academic participation of students with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in higher education programs across the U.S. and in California.

Data from the national Transition and Postsecondary Programs for Students with Intellectual Disabilities and from California’s College to Career (C2C) programs will be provided.

Participants will learn about 1) important provisions in the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, 2) the new Home and Community Based Setting Rule, 3) a new competitive integrated employment incentive program, and 4) a new internship incentive program.

The presenters will provide strategies for supporting students with IDD in higher education and for supporting the transition of these students from postsecondary education to competitive integrated employment.
