The UCLA Semel Institute and Department of Psychiatry is seeking a highly energized, experienced part time (10%) mid to senior level Adjunct Professor to join the existing Departmental/Institute faculty and leadership team to develop an expanded educational and research program focused on public psychiatry and mental health policy. A focus of this position is to increase academic, government and community partnerships and educational and policy programming in service of advancing the mental health and wellbeing of populations affected by serious mental illness, addiction and homelessness. Specifically, the candidate will work with our educational and public psychiatry leadership to support the development of innovative academic and public partnerships and policy programs within the Department/Institute. The candidate will also develop a professional development training program focused on public psychiatry and policy leadership track. 

Candidates must have a MD in Psychiatry or a related field and should have a strong background in public psychiatry leadership research, teaching, and mentoring. Essential skills include curricula design, public mental health policy experience, public mental health system leadership and program skills, strong writing and teaching skills. 

Applicants must have documented skills and experience: 1) Designing academic and public mental health system partnerships to improve mental health and wellbeing outcomes through community-based programs, policies and practices. 2) Leading teams in strategic planning and public psychiatry program implementation with an emphasis on equitable services; 3) Knowledge of emerging policy and system models for addressing serious mental illness, addiction and homelessness in California; 4) Developing professional mental health leadership educational programs for psychiatry residents and other mental health professional trainees; 5) A record of mentoring graduate level students in public psychiatry; and 6) A willingness to travel to further the Institute/Department’s mission of training, teaching and mentoring diverse populations.
