New study suggests relationships between impairment in insight and white matter microstructure in people with body dysmorphic disorder

June 18, 2013

A recently published study by Jamie Feusner, Donatello Arienzo, Wei Li, Liang Zhan, Johnson GadElkarim, Paul Thompson, and Alex Leow investigated relationships between white matter microstructure and clinical symptoms in body dysmorphic disorder (BDD). This is the first study examining white matter in individuals with BDD, using diffusion tensor imaging. The results suggest an association between poor insight and fiber disorganization in tracts connecting visual with emotion/memory processing systems.
