50th Anniversary of the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act
October 31, 2013 marks the 50th Anniversary of the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act (originally PL 88-164, “The Mental Retardation Construction and Facilities Act of 1963”). It is through the DD Act that the federal partnership of the State Council on Developmental Disabilities, Disability Rights California a,nd 3 Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (Tarjan Center at UCLA, UC Davis Mind Institute CEDD, and USC Center for Excellence) and CECY, a Project for National Significance was established. To commemorate the occasion, the White House Office of Public Engagement, in partnership with the Administration on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and the National Council on Disability are hosting an event on October 4th featuring senior Administration officials, special guests and a series of panel discussions about the past, present and future for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Dr. Olivia Raynor, Director of the Tarjan Center at UCLA and CECY has been invited to attend this event.
