Consortium for Neuropsychiatric Phenomics Practicum

Overview

Program Description: The Consortium for Neuropsychiatric Phenomics (CNP; see www.phenomics.ucla.edu) may permit qualified trainees to participate in research practica within the Human Translational Applications Core (HTAC), which conducts extensive behavioral and neurocognitive assessments, and neuroimaging investigations of large numbers of healthy adults and those with selected neuropsychiatric syndromes, including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder.  Practicum opportunities depend on experience, but may include diagnostic interviewing, conduct of rating scales, administration, scoring and interpretation of neurocognitive tests, and data analysis.  Supervision is provided by licensed psychologists and/or other members of our research team.

Current position openings: We can accommodate 1 or 2 practicum trainees each year.

Resource Allocation: The practicum trainees share space with staff in the HTAC which is on the C-level of the Semel Institute.  Appropriate office equipment, including desk, phone, computer, and office supplies, is provided.

Supervision: All practicum trainees will receive weekly supervision from a member of our research team.  In addition, all practicum trainees are required to attend weekly group supervision for 1.5 hours on Thursdays with Dr. Miller and rotating faculty.  In addition, informal supervision (phone calls, emails, etc.) is available when necessary, and all supervisors are available for consultation if an urgent situation arises. Practicum trainee evaluations will be completed by the direct supervisor. Orientation to the CNP and HTAC will vary depending on the practicum trainee’s assignment.  All essential materials, including psychological assessment instruments, are available and provided.
