The UCLA - Alzheimer’s Disease Center (ADC) Neuropsychology Laboratory offers 8 externship positions per year. On this rotation, the practicum trainee performs one comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation each week in the UCLA Neurology Outpatient Clinic. Patients are referred primarily from UCLA neurologists, with a broad variety of clinical presentations, including head injury, psychiatric disorders, mild cognitive impairment, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, Lewy body dementia, and other neurodegenerative disorders. The extern will be expected to achieve proficiency in standardized test administration, and will score, interpret, and write up a comprehensive neuropsychological report each week. In addition, the extern will have the opportunity to participate in weekly didactic seminars within the Semel training program. Externs are also welcome to participate in ongoing research within the center under the direction of Dr. Ellen Woo.
Current Position Openings: The UCLA-ADC offers 8 practicum position each year. Students have the option to participate in the Memory Care Program within Dr. Miller’s rotation at the AMRC. Practicum trainees are required to spend one full day in clinic each week. The total time commitment is estimated to be 16 hours per week.
Resource Allocation: Practicum trainees at the ADC have designated office space at the Mary S. Easton Center for Alzheimer’s Disease Research located just south of the medical center on Weyburn Avenue (room #304). All clinic patients are seen in the Neurology Outpatient Clinic located in the basement of Building 300 of the UCLA Medical Plaza. Students are provided appropriate office equipment including a desk, a computer, phone, and other office supplies. All essential materials, including psychological assessment instruments and computerized scoring programs, are available to the practicum trainees.
Supervision: All practicum trainees will receive at least one hour of individual supervision per week with their assigned ADC supervisor. Additional informal supervision is available when necessary (phone calls, e-mails), and all supervisors are available for consultation if an urgent situation arises.

Practicum trainee evaluations will be completed by the direct clinical supervisor. Orientation to the ADC occurs in mid-August and is conducted by faculty and post-doctoral fellows.
