The UCLA Media and Medicine for Communities Program presents its first event for the New Year… “An Evening with Author Ned Vizzini”

This event is free and open to the public and you may register at www.mediaandmedicine.org Ned Vizzini is the author of “It’s Kind of a Funny Story”, now a major motion picture (on DVD Feb. 8) from Focus Features starring Zach Galifianakis, Keir Gilchrist and Emma Roberts. He will speak about his journey through depression and overcoming suicide and how it inspired his third novel “It’s Kind of a Funny Story” to be followed by a Q&A.

Parking is available on UCLA's campus at Lot 9 on Westwood Blvd. for $11. Parking is also available in various lots in Westwood for $3 as well as street parking

Kenneth Wells, professor of psychiatry at the Semel Institute and professor of health services at the School of Public Health, was featured in a Feb. 19 Los Angeles Times article about “The First Lady,” a semi-fictionalized operatic account of the life of Eleanor Roosevelt written by Wells. The opera debuted at UCLA last Friday.

When Ken Wells isn't busy with his day jobs as a UCLA professor, director of the UCLA Health Services Research Center and an adjunct staff member at the RAND Corp., he pens operas. The result of his latest moonlighting efforts is "The First Lady," a semi-fictionalized operatic account of the life of Eleanor Roosevelt during the two weeks following the death of her husband, Franklin D. Roosevelt, which premieres Friday, Feb. 19, on the UCLA campus. The event is free and open to the public.
