Fawzy I. Fawzy M.D. appointed as Dean of Academic Affairs and Senior Associate Dean of the David Geffen School of Medicine
Fawzy I. Fawzy M.D. has been appointed by Vice Chancellor Levey as Dean of Academic Affairs and Senior Associate Dean of the David Geffen School of Medicine. In his new role as Dean of Academic Affairs, Fawzy essentially will be assuming the role of Provost of the Medical Faculty, being responsible for the oversight of appointments and advancements in the school and personnel actions.
Dr Fawzy will continue to be active in the Department as well as the Institute and he has agreed to continue as Executive Vice Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences and Executive Associate Director of the Institute. The responsibilities as CEO of the Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital will pass to Dr Whybrow, and demands of the new position will necessitate some further accommodation and redistribution of effort regarding how Dr Fawzy and Dr Whybrow share the executive oversight responsibilities for the Institute, Hospital and Department. To ensure that we maintain smooth operation of the Institute, Hospital and Department, an integrative management group will be established to aid Dr Fawzy and Dr Whybrow in reviewing and redistributing the necessary day to day workload of these three vital elements of our enterprise.
The new integrative management group (IMG) will be convened in July and evolve in its role through the summer and into the fall, assessing the needs of the faculty, staff and trainees. The IMG will not supersede any of the established administrative groups within the Department or Institute (e.g. the Forum or the Steering Committee). Dr Whybrow and Dr Fawzy will continue to meet with the senior administrative staff of the Institute and clinical programs, on a biweekly basis, as is now the case.
