Peter Reiss was funded by the Arts and Accessibility Technical Assistance grant. For more information click here.
Peter Reiss seeks through strongly humanistic portraits to reaffirm the integrity of each individual from groups of people who are often misunderstood by the community. Through photographic imagery, often times utilizing text from the subject allowing the participant a voice, he hopes to convey to the viewer not only how the person looks but also a sense of whom they are. Over the past 20 years, he has taken portraits of the physically handicapped, developmentally disabled, and profoundly and severely retarded individuals. He has also worked with many other individuals on numerous different projects throughout the years.
