Dr. Ge's research has focused on child and adolescent development in various contexts. His program of research has been organized around three areas:

  1. The influence of adolescent transition on emotional and behavioral development.
  2. The interaction between biological factors and social contexts in influencing adolescent development.
  3. The long-term consequences of adolescent emotional and behavioral problems.
Dr. Xiaojia Ge has been involved extensively in several longitudinal studies of children and adolescents from European- and African-American families. He has examined the effects of pubertal transition on adolescent internalizing and externalizing problems, the effects of family processes, neighborhood contexts, and economic stress on adolescent development. He is currently conducting a multi-site longitudinal study with adopted children and their families.
