Psychopharmacology

Overview

This eight-hour class is designed to provide the nurse with a brief description of how the most commonly used psychotropic drugs affect brain chemistry. Also discussed is information on drug classifications with an overview of the mechanism of action of each class of drug, it effects, side effects, and adverse reactions. In addition Diabetes classification, signs and symptoms and treatment of hyper and hypoglycemia is reviewed with the focus on the hospitalized patient. Blood sugar testing and Insulin administration are also addressed with a focus on safety issues.
