This is the UCLA/San Fernando Valley Program's PGY-II psychopharmacology course. Familiarity with basic principles of psychopharmacology of various medications used in psychiatry is assumed. Lectures focus on specific clinical use of pharmaceuticals in various specific conditions: psychoses, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, personality disorders. Emphasis is on judicious use of medications in conjunction with other aspects of care in adult psychiatric outpatients. Course includes resident prepration of a "state of the art" review of a specific topic in psychopharmacology. Required for PGY-II residents. Weekly, 2-3 p.m., September - December.
