M181. Biological Bases of Psychiatric Disorders

Overview

(Same as Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology M181; Neuroscience M130; Physiological Science M181; and Psychology M117J).  Lecture, three hours.  Requisite:  Neuroscience M101A (or Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology M175A or Physiological Science M180A or Psychology M117A; or Physiological Science 111A or Psychology 115).  Underlying brain systems involved in psychiatric symptoms and neurological disorders, including schizophrenia, depression, bipolar disorder, obsessive/compulsive disorder.  Provides basic understanding of brain dysfunctions that contribute to disorders and rationales for pharmacological treatments.  P/NP or letter grading.
