Inpatient Psychiatry

Overview

Complete evaluation of psychiatric patients, overlap of psychiatry and medicine, and multidisciplinary treatment plan will be taught. In addition, milieu therapy, family interventions, support system evaluation and disposition planning are highlighted. Inpatients with severe psychosis, rapid de-escalation by psychopharmacological and behavioral techniques are explained. Legal requirements such as involuntary hospitalization, writ and Rease hearing, and restraint and seclusion are used with staff guidance. Offered continuously throughout the year, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 9-10 a.m., 8-West, Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. Prerequisite: all those on inpatient rotation.
