This course will provide students with a basis of understanding the purpose and function of expert witnesses in various court/legal jurisdictions. Content areas include assessment of violence potential, assessment of competency and criminal responsibility, child sex abuse evaluations, sexually violent predator issues and evaluations, as well as assessment of symptom exaggeration and malingering in forensic settings. Other topics include forensic psychological assessment and neuropsychological assessment, mental health commitments (LPS), mental health treatment in correctional setting and an enhanced appreciation of how mental health professionals may provide objective, relevant and probative informative/ date to courts and other jurisdictions.
