This course emphasizes the diagnosis/assessment and biopsychosocial treatment of patients having psychiatric or emotional disorders presently being treated on the medical/surgical wards or outpatient clinics at Harbor-UCLA. Special attention is paid to emotional reactions to chronic/disabling disease, the management of the chronically mentally ill patient on medical wards, psychiatric effects of medications, drug interactions, the use of psychotropics in the mentally ill, and somatoform disorders. Offered throughout the year, Monday- Friday, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. Prerequisite: consent of instructor.
