Advisor/Preceptor

Overview

Each Semel Institute and Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital trainee is assigned a faculty mentor. The preceptor for each psychiatry resident is responsible for developing a personal relationship with the preceptee, with the general goal of providing a meaningful liaison between residents and faculty. The relationship is confidential and continues for the duration of the preceptee's residency.  The psychology internship advisor is responsible for meeting weekly with the advisee for program development and discussion of professional career directions, and should provide an appropriate role model for the intern.  (Psychology interns also may, on occasion, request assignment of a preceptor who is outside the UCLA administrative structure for a confidential relationship free of potential conflict of interest).  Other Semel Institute and Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital educational programs may assign preceptors or advisors as needed.  Offered continuously throughout the year by arrangement of the training coordinators.
