Neurocognitive Correlates of Behavioral Treatment for Childhood Tic Disorders

Project summary

Neurocognitive Correlates of Behavioral Treatment for Childhood Tic Disorders – NIMH TRECC Center Project IV

Chronic tic disorders (CTD), including Tourette syndrome, are characterized by a persistent pattern of motor and vocal tics. Both medication and behavior therapy have been shown to benefit individuals with CTD, although medication is associated with a number of adverse side effects. One of the most promising behavioral treatments for CTD is Habit Reversal Training (HRT), which is designed to teach individuals to better manage their tic symptoms. This study aims to examine the relationship between brain functioning in children with CTD and response to HRT.
