Youth Stress & Mood Program. A Depression & Suicide Prevention Program offers a Medical Psychology Externship program at UCLA's Semel Institute. This is a 12-month training program for graduate students. Will consider applicants with at least 2 years of graduate education in clinical psychology who are in good standing. The emphasis of the program is on training focused on youth depression, suicide prevention, and reducing health risk behaviors (e.g. Obesity risk, substance use, smoking, risky sex). Supervised experience is available in diagnostic evaluations, cognitive-behavior therapy, family education and treatment, individual and group treatment approaches, and other interventions. The emphasis is on evidence-based evaluation, treatment, and clinical decision making. The program provides clinical training within the context of a clinical service with a strong research component. Treatment and services trials are in progress funded by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and other organizations. Theses projects focus on suicide and suicide attempt prevention, treatment of youth depression, and improving health and reducing health risk behaviors

Simms/Mann - UCLA Center for Integrative Oncology. (Formerly the Ted Mann Family Resource Center) The Integrative Oncology Externship at the Simms/Mann-UCLA Center for Integrative Oncology is a 12-month training program for graduate students enrolled in an APA approved Clinical Psychology doctoral program interested in developing a career in the field of health psychology. Through the externship, students obtain intensive exposure to clinical care of patients with cancer and their family members including learning about the disease of cancer, the impact it has on the psychosocial functioning of adult patients and family members throughout various stages of development, concrete and comprehensive interventions, and the role of mental health professionals in a medical environment. Externs will receive this training in an outpatient center through close supervision, clinical work in a variety of medical oncology settings, observations and didactic training including case conferences and lectures.

The Neuropsychology Externship program at UCLA's Resnick Hospital & Semel Institute is a 12-month training program for graduate students enrolled in an APA approved Clinical Psychology doctoral program. The emphasis of the training is on neuropsychological assessment, and there are several rotations, including both clinical and research tracks for geriatric, adult, and pediatric. Externs participate in several didactic seminars that are part of the post-doctoral fellowship program in neuropsychology.
