A Smoldering Controversy at UCLA
The Los Angeles Times and United Press International reported Feb. 9 on a nicotine-addiction study by Edythe London, a professor in the Semel Institute. Funded by Philip Morris, the animal research seeks to discover innovative treatments for nicotine and other addictions. A Feb. 14 article on animal-rights extremists in the San Francisco Chronicle also cited the fire-bombing and flooding of London's home by animal-rights activists. The Times article quoted London, Chancellor Gene Block; and Roberto Peccei, vice chancellor for research. London also commented in the UPI article.
