Cholinergic Receptor Imaging in Alzheimer's Disease (Patients with Alzheimer's disease)

Study Detail

We are studying a certain set of receptors in the brain, called nicotinic receptors, which are altered in Alzheimer’s disease. Using brain imaging to visualize these receptors, we are examining how much the receptors are reduced, whether they are reduced in particular brain regions, and whether their loss is linked with memory difficulty.

 

Currently we are recruiting patients with Alzheimer’s disease.

Target audience: 

You must:

  • Be over the age of 60
  • Have a caregiver who either lives with you or visits you at least 4 times a week
Pre-conditions: 

You must:

  • Have a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease
  • Otherwise be generally healthy
  • NOT have been a smoker for at least the past 10 years
Involvement: 

Your involvement in the study consists of 2 study visits, during which you will:

  • Receive imaging scans (MRI and PET) of your brain
  • Have blood drawn
  • Be interviewed and tested on your memory and thinking
